If you are looking for a family vacation that satisfies parents and kids alike, then you'll want to attend the 2021 Heart Ridge Summer Family Camp. Since this is our first family camp at Heart Ridge, we are inviting families to be "Trailblazers." And this isn't because we are aimlessly trekking through unfamiliar ground. Like great Trailblazers, we've taken input and suggestions from many families who've attended different kinds of summer family camps, as well as our own experience running retreats and conferences. From this, we have put together what we believe to be a great mix of planned activities, time with peers, time with the family, spiritual and faith components, prepared meals, and the right amount of free time, all in beautiful natural surroundings with comfortable lodging.
To enhance community and assure comfort, each camp session will be limited to 15 families. Camps are selling out. Sign up today.

Continue Growing in Faith and Fellowship this Summer with a Fun Family Camp in the Mountains of South Carolina!
We are inviting you and your family to be Trailblazers with us this summer! Come with us on an adventure your whole family will love.
Below you will see a sample schedule for the week. We've also made the cost simple to calculate and very reasonably priced. You'll find other similar family camps for up to 3x the cost of ours. At Heart Ridge Summer Family Camp, along with lodging, all meals and snacks are included in the price, as well as all activities that take place at the retreat center. Families will have the option for daytime excursions to explore the nearby state parks and attractions in this corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains. (See nearby activities here.) |
What are the lodging or sleeping arrangements?
Each family will have their own private clean and comfortable room(s) depending on the size of the family. All parents' rooms have a queen or full size bed. Some of these will also have one or two twin beds. There are adjoining rooms, small houses, and bunk rooms. Most have dorm-like, single sex shared bathrooms. Some have private bathrooms. All sheets and towels are provided, but there is no daily maid service.
Is there air conditioning?
Yes. South Carolina, even in our mountains, can be very hot in the summer. All indoor spaces are airconditioned.
What will we eat? And what about food allergies?
Food will be served family style of the usual "camp" fair made by our excellent cooks. Effort will be made to use healthy, local, and organic food when reasonable, often from our own garden and chickens (eggs, that is). Common allergies like gluten, nuts, and dairy, as well as vegetarian, will have options for every meal. You can contact us for other dietary needs, and we will try to accommodate.
What if I'm a single, widowed, or divorced parent?
You will be welcome here, and your family treated like all of the others. There will be alternative activities when couples are involved. Most likely, you won't be the only one.
Does everyone need to be Catholic?
No. We understand that everyone is on his or her own journey of Faith. The programs here are designed to help everyone discover his or her own path to God and to help families grow closer together regardless of faith differences. We will be leading this from the Catholic understanding of the human person and the salvation of souls through a relationship with Jesus Christ. All we ask is respect and an open mind to this proposal.
Will there be Mass everyday?
Yes! As this is the source and summit of our faith, and the highest form of prayer, we definitely want families to receive these graces daily.
Can I bring my dog?
Although we'd all love to meet your pet, Heart Ridge lodgings are pet free. We envision a kennel in the future. . .but for now, no pets.
Do we have to participate in all of the scheduled activities?
No. . .BUT it will be worth your effort if you do. We purposely scheduled lots of free time for your family to do their own exploring in the area, or just relax and hang out. The activities planned may not be your cup of tea, but chances are, some members of your family will thrive on these. And honestly, they are designed with every family in mind. The serious activities add a little substance to the camping experience without taking away any of the fun.
What time does it start on the first day?
You may arrive anywhere from 2:00-4:00 The activities will begin at 4:30 and we will have BBQ (South Carolina BBQ, that is.) at around 6:00.
