“Not only does the Foothills Trail offer a superior hiking experience (Backpacker magazine rated it as “one of the best long trails [fifty plus miles] in the country”), it also provides access to some spectacular waterfalls for sightseers and photographers….”

Could we have an "American Camino" right here in the Carolinas?

This is what Heart Ridge and a few other nature lovers, pilgrimage seekers, trail hikers, and Foothill trail enthusiasts are discerning.

There is no doubt that spending time in nature--hours... days... awakens something in the soul, especially when one is surrounded by beauty.  If this time is intentionally focused on God, one can have a spiritual renewal, an awakening.

A Trail experience can at times also be shared with fellow hikers to awaken another kind of koinonia brought by fellowship and community.
Hiking on a trail in the beauty of nature, alone with God and at times with others sharing experiences.

These are certainly trademarks of a pilgrimage!
But unlike most pilgrimages, the Foothills trail lacks a relic or a "Holy" place at the end.  This is something we are working on.

There are some ideas in the works.

Why the Foothills Trail?
It is well-marked, contains many campsites and access points.  It also has: 13 Waterfalls, Gorges, Wooden Steps, Multiple Suspension Bridges, and the Highest point in South Carolina.
It can be a challenging hike for the "pros." It offers a 5-7 day thru-hike option.  But it also offers shorter sections for beginners.
